Sherm Chester recaps the Championship weekend for high school hockey and basketball in the Granite State.

 

The highlights of the weekend included a D1 hockey championship for Concord in a historic 4 overtime victory against  Bishop Guertin followed by the boys D1 basketball title contest between Bedford and Keene with Bedford squeaking out the win in a great title tilt.

 

Congratulations to all the championship teams and all the student athletes involved in winter sports

It’s almost time to close the books on the high school winter sports season with the championship weekend.

Sherm Chester is joined by Roger Brown of NHHardball.com to discuss the pairings and to analyze the elimination of the Seacoast  teams in the tournament in two exciting semifinal contests.

In football news Exeter's Hunter Long changes teams during NFL free agency season and Roger breaks news that will have an effect on next falls schoolboy football schedule.

Sherm Chester with a reporters notebook that includes a recap of the NHIAA tournament action so far which included a big upset win and at the wire win for two of the Seacoast teams.

The winter season comes to a close with the state championships wrapping up this weekend.  

NHIAA Tournament Action: 

On Saturday..

The Girls Division 2 Championship game at Noon..Division One at 4pm

On Sunday..

The Boys Division 2 Championship game at Noon..Division One at 4pm

Both days the games will be at UNH's Lundholm Gym in Durham

 

NHIAA Championship Hockey Tournament action scheduled for Saturday at SNHU arena in Manchester... gametimes TBA

 

The pairings for the NHIAA girls and boys basketball tournaments are posted and Sherm is joined by Jay Pinsonnault from Seacoastonline.com and they review the matchups and size up the teams leading up to the NHIAA Basketball Championships for D1 and D2 at UNH ‘s Lundholm Gym March 15 and 16.

Jay has been checking out Cactus League spring training baseball in Arizona and gives his take on the Red Sox acquisition of Alex Bregman.

Sherm is looking for fantasy baseball managers for his leagues.

They wrap up with hot stove conversation about the upcoming baseball spring training and Sherm’s tribute to HOF broadcaster Bob Uecker.

It’s official that the New England Patriots hired Mike Vrabel to be their new head coach.  Sherm gives his thoughts on the hire and also on the way  Jerod Mayo was fired.

On the schoolboy/school girl sports scene discussion turns to the upcoming schedules and current NHIAA standings.

During the “Two Minute Drill” Sherm congratulates the winner of the SSF Fantasy football league and gives his take on the upcoming National College Football Championship.

Roger Brown is Sherm’s guest host on this first 2025 edition of the SSF.

The guys discuss the New Years college bowl games and the road to the NCAA football championship.  The effects of the Transfer Portal  on the game is also on the table.

 

The talk shifted to the Patriots and the future of Gerod Mayo and their potential NFL Draft pick but was edited out after the new of Mayos firing by Robert Kraft. (We will pick up that topic in the next edition)

 

During the “Two Minute Drill” Roger discusses an upcoming football camp and Sherm pays tribute to a member of the Bluehawk family.
